Dazzle and I recommend the

German Red Clipper!

I am proud to be the United States representative for the German Red Clipper!

I first heard about this clipper years ago on the Internet.  The people who owned them raved about the power and quality construction of this European tool. Although this is the most popular pet clipper in most of Europe, I could not find a source for one in the U.S.

In early 2006, I had an opportunity to try the German Red Clipper.  I was very excited to see if all the rave reviews I had heard were for real.  When I first opened the case that held my new clipper, I was impressed at what a sleek and solid looking tool it was.  But, to be honest, I was a bit dismayed when I first picked it up. The GRC is a bit longer and heavier than the clipper I normally used.  Here in the U.S., the trend in manufacturing clippers is to make them smaller and lighter. There are some benefits to this trend, but there are also some drawbacks.  Lighter generally means substituting plastic parts for metal.  Plastic parts have the potential to wear out or break more quickly than metal parts.

The GRC boasts famed German craftsmanship and long lasting metal parts.  I was concerned that the weight of this clipper would irritate my aging and crabby wrist, with its occasional carpal tunnel issues.  To my delight, I found that the clipper is beautifully balanced.  The weight of the clipper is towards the head, so when I hold it in the clipping position, my hand and wrist are perfectly comfortable.  I have been using the clipper daily for over a year, with no wrist strain at all.

The German Red Clipper is new to the U.S. market, but it is not new to groomers “across the pond.”  It is quite unlike the A-5 type clippers we are used to here.  If you are looking for a truly well made clipper that will give you years of trouble free service, consider adding this to your tack box.  Here are some of important points about this wonderful tool:

  • Blades:  although the blades used are not compatible with the A5 style blades we use here, they offer some wonderful benefits.  Each blade is precision German engineered for long blade life. (I have not had mine sharpened after a year of use!)  Each blade has an adjustable tension knob, so you can adjust the blade for optimum performance on individual pets.  There are blades comparable to all US blades, and some sizes we don’t have, as well!
  • Case:  The case on the GRC is virtually unbreakable. During demonstrations at trade shows, we chuck the poor demo clippers about with reckless abandon.  They take a lickin’ and keep on clippin’!
  • Blade latch:  Rather than the blade latch assembly we are used to in the US, the GRC has a different method of affixing the blade to the clipper.  The blade NEVER comes loose, and there is no latch assembly to replace.
  • Blade drive:  Made of metal, not plastic, the “doohickey” that moves back and forth to make your blade move does not need to be replaced.  How cool is THAT?
  • Cord:  Very long and sturdy. I can dance all around the table and still have room to roam.
  • Switch: Located on the side.  Easy enough to reach, but not in a place where I ever accidentally turn the clipper off in mid-clip.
  • Speed:  This clipper runs at slower SPM (strokes per minute) than some popular U.S. brands.  It depends on power and torque to tackle thick coats and mats, rather than speed.  This means that blades stay cool longer, and parts do not wear quickly.  More speed=more heat and more wear and tear on moving parts.
  • Dependability: I have talked to groomers who have had their German Red Clipper in active use for over twenty years!  I generally buy new A5 type clippers every year or two.  Over the course of my career I have spent approximately $3,000 on clippers!  If I had started out with a GRC, I could have saved a LOT of money. And I don’t even want to think how much money I have spent on A5 blades over the years… it gives me a headache.
  • Service:  Although manufactured in Germany, there is a service center right here in the United States.  You can count on fast, dependable service on both blades and clippers.

There has been a learning curve to get used to this tool, but I am so glad I have made the effort to try something new.  The dependable German Red Clipper is a valuable addition to my styling equipment.  If you purchase one and for any reason are not satisfied you may return it  within 2 weeks for a full refund.  Questions?  Feel free to email me.  Daryl@DarylConner.com or yankeegroomer@aol.com
